"They communicate with joy and spontaneity. With technical brilliance, rhythmic virtuosity, tonal breadth, and great dynamic range – the 2025 winner of Ung & Lovande is BrassUnit."
BrassUnit is a Swedish brass quintet with international recognition.
Founded in 2019 during a weekend course in Vänersborg – YOMA (Young Musicians Academy) – BrassUnit has since distinguished itself through strong musicality, innovative programming, and a warm stage presence.
BrassUnit creates concerts where music from different eras and genres meets in unexpected ways – aiming to surprise, inspire, and move audiences. By pushing the boundaries of what a brass quintet can be, they offer something fresh and engaging at every performance.
The ensemble performs both in Sweden and abroad, with a special commitment to highlighting Swedish composers and expanding the brass repertoire.
BrassUnit works closely with renowned musicians and educators such as Håkan Hardenberger, Tom Paulsson, and Ingmar Roos – important role models who continue to inspire the group’s artistic growth.
With passion, curiosity, and strong ensemble playing, BrassUnit is dedicated to placing the brass quintet at the heart of today’s chamber music scene.
Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.

Music is enough for a lifetime, but a liftime is not enough for music
- I. Stravinsky
Behind the scenes
BrassUnit places great value on performing relevant and meaningful music to help drive the development of chamber music. Our vision is for the brass quintet to become as established and recognized as other traditional forms of chamber music, such as string quartets and piano trios.
BrassUnit draws inspiration from the centuries-old string music tradition and strives to build a similar artistic practice within the world of brass.
New music
The brass quintet still lacks the extensive repertoire available to string quartets and other established forms of chamber music. That’s why BrassUnit is continuously working to commission new works from some of today’s most prominent and promising composers.
